If one were to take The Dreamers, subtract the nudity and add Beatles tunes, I imagine what you’d get would be called Across the Universe and would look like this:

This film clearly captures what the sixties were all about, which I imagine was running through forests laughing whenever you weren’t being dragged screaming through draft board offices.

The main character (Jude, natch) is obviously a tortured artist, since we see him furiously throwing red paint at a canvas. See, he uses art, not violence, man! And there’s unrest, and rebellion, and Vietnam is bad. This is apparently the “Most original movie of the year.” Apparently Mr. Caption-Trailers saw The Dreamers or the Cirque Du Soleil Show which was also the same goddamn thing.

Ya, just saw that last night actually.

I’m pretty sure there’s some fakeness. I think it’s the way the camera interacts with the people. It’s wierd how no one ackowledges it, except the bride when she freaks out. You’d think they’d be looking at the camera and giggling more.

And a jewish girl is marrying “kevin smith” I’m suspect.

Pretty funny though. How many girls from our high school do you think could have had that same experience? 8, at least. If not 1400.

Del Taco Presents “Head Up His Own Ass”

Why do I suddenly know Guillermo Del Toro’s name so well? The director of the easily-forgettable Hellboy now has his big Latino last name plastered all over this damn world. Attached to the highly-touted Pan’s Labyrinth, of course, but still. My housemate — the one who asked me why “there’s always beeping noises on 24?!” — said to me the other day, “what’s the deal with this Del Toro guy?” Why does she know his name?

Here’s my theory:

‘Del Toro’ is a very sexy, mysterious last name. It means ‘of the bull’ or ‘from the bull.’ People, being dumb, might naturally assume that the director is sexy, in that ethnic-sexy kind of way. He’s not. Here’s a pic of el gordo.

“Did you just say Chimichanga?”

He looks like a whiter version of Peter Jackson (pre-weight loss, of course). And, I’ll note that because of his stature, Del Toro will henceforth be known as Del Taco, because I know he eats his fair share (Bam! Ethnic joke and fat joke!).

Furthermore, Del Taco shares his last name with Benicio Del Toro, who’s a great, semi-popular actor. Maybe they assume that by plastering Benicio’s last name all over this movie will draw the ‘confused fans of Traffic‘ crowd. Not sure how big that market is.

You’ll notice I haven’t said a thing about Pan’s Labyrinth. That’s because I haven’t seen it, and have heard only praise. I’m just pissed that I know now the last name of the person responsible for Blade II.

Hope Hellboy II rocks, dude! And your tacos are great to eat when I’m really, really drunk.
